NORTHWAKEGALE POINT

Gale Point, turning through the winter.

A ten-year operations and maintenance proposal for the 64 turbines 38 kilometres off Skelby, from the crews who'll live out there with them.

You told us the year is lost in four months.

We read your tender twice. These are your words, with the section they came from.

Annual availability was 95.2 percent against a business case of 97.0. Almost all of the gap sits between November and February.

Invitation to tender, section 2.3

In January we had turbines with a known fault and the part on the quay, waiting four days for a sea our vessels could work in.

Section 2.7

Bidders should show how availability is held through winter, and what they'll put at risk if it isn't.

Section 4.1, evaluation criteria

Our technicians step off a moving bow more than 4,000 times a year. We want that number to fall.

Section 5.2, health and safety
95.2%

Availability across the last twelve months, against the 97.0 you financed the farm on.

88.9%

January 2026. The worst month, and the one with the strongest wind of the year.

$2.4M

The power you didn't sell last year, at $65 a megawatt-hour, from the 1.8 point gap alone.

Availability by month, February 2025 to January 2026

Summer clears your target. Winter takes it back, one storm at a time.

The windiest hours are the ones you can't reach.

Drag the wind. Watch what one turbine earns, how the sea builds, and who can still step across to fix it.

    Waiting

Ten years, planned around the weather.

Heavy work goes in the summer windows. Winter is for keeping turbines turning. Here's who's on the water and when.

    Tern

Service operation vessel on station at Gale Point all year. Technicians sleep aboard and walk to the turbine on a motion-compensated gangway.

60 berths. Gangway to 3.0 m. 28 days on station, then a crew change.

    Skua

Crew boat out of Skelby for summer campaigns and fast runs.

    24 seats. Bow transfer to 1.5 m.

    Fulmar

Second crew boat, so two campaigns can run at once.

    24 seats. Bow transfer to 1.5 m.

    Petrel

Daughter craft launched from the Tern for short hops between turbines.

    8 seats. Works to 2.0 m.

Blade campaigns follow the number you pick in the price. The year-five review is your break point, written into the terms.

    Four signatures, four questions.

Each of you asked something different in the clarification round. Here's an answer you can test for yourself.

What happens if you miss 97 percent?

    IIngrid, Asset Director

You get money back, every year, automatically. For each tenth of a point under 97.0 we return 1.5 percent of that year's fee, up to 30 percent. Above 98.0 we share the extra power 80 to 20 in your favour, so we're paid to keep going past the target.

What does a bad-weather day look like with your crews on my farm?

    CCallum, Head of Operations

Six teams of two live on the Tern. When the sea is kind they walk across and the crew boats bring a summer campaign out too. When it isn't, they're still out there, a few minutes from the turbine, waiting for the next gap. Pick a day.

On a turbineMoving, by gangway or boatAboard, planning or remote work

Will fewer of our people step off a moving bow?

    PPriya, Health and Safety lead

Yes, about three in four of them. Most visits move to the gangway, which holds still while the ship moves under it. Set the number of turbine visits you expect a year and compare.

    2,090 visits

Gangway stops at 3.0 m, and the Tern's master can stop it sooner

The limit comes from the gangway's motion compensation, and schedule pressure never moves it. Any technician can call a stop at the gangway head, with no questions asked afterwards.

Twelve hours on, twelve off, logged per person

Living aboard removes the two-hour crew boat ride each way, which is where most fatigue came from in your incident log. Hours are logged against each name and the shift lead can't override them.

Rescue from height drilled every rotation

Every team runs a rescue from the nacelle on their first day aboard. The Tern carries a rescue boat crew on every shift and a hospital bay with a remote doctor link.

    Your incident reporting, not ours

We report into your system from day one, so Priya sees our near misses in the same place as everyone else's.

Is the vessel worth its day rate at our power price?

    TTomas, Chief Financial Officer

The Tern is the biggest line in the price, and it's the one we'd defend hardest. Put in the power price you're planning on and see what the winter points it saves are worth.

    One point of availability
    $1.40M/yr
    What the Tern saves
    $3.37M/yr
    What the Tern costs
    $2.40M/yr
    Our fee per MWh
    $5.53

One price, built line by line.

Every line comes out on its own and tells you what you'd lose. The base never changes.

    Your total$118,000,000

What we'd sign, in your seat. Everything except the spares pool. Your turbine maker's parts agreement already covers main components to 2032, and paying for a held gearbox twice doesn't move availability. If the number has to come down, take the blade campaigns from four to three before touching anything else. The Tern stays, because it's where the winter points come from.

    The terms, in plain words.

What the contract says, written the way we'd explain it across a table. The legal draft follows these line for line.

    1. A fixed price that moves once a year

Prices hold for each contract year and move every July with inflation, capped at 3.5 percent.

    2. Monthly invoices, paid in 30 days

We bill at the end of each month for that month. Mobilisation is billed in three milestones, the last one only once the farm is handed over.

    3. Our fee is at risk

If the guarantee line is in, up to 30 percent of each year's fee comes back to you when availability falls under the guaranteed level. It's measured on your own SCADA data.

    4. Your people come with us

The 14 technicians on site today are offered roles with us on the same pay or better, with their service dates kept.

    5. A way out at year five

You can end the contract at year five with 12 months' notice and no fee. We can't.

    6. Who carries what

We insure our vessels and our people. You keep the turbine maker's warranty and parts agreement. Crane vessels for main components are passed through at cost plus 6 percent handling.

Hold the Tern for Gale Point.

The Tern's 2027 charter slot is held for you until 15 December 2026. Sign by then and we start mobilising in January, with the first crew on the farm the week the warranty hands over. After that date the slot goes back to the market.
