Eighteen hours keeps GX2 on its dates.

Your Gulf Express rotation runs five ports in 35 days. One berth decides how the other four go.

  1. Port AmbroseDay 020 h alongside
  2. Saltmarsh PointDay 318 h guaranteed
  3. VellmoreDay 522 h alongside
  4. Cabo LindoDay 1126 h alongside
  5. KingsreachDay 1930 h alongside
  6. Port AmbroseDay 35Loop closes

GX2 calls the Gulf every Tuesday. When a ship leaves a Gulf berth late, the loop doesn't wait for it. The master makes the time back at sea at a higher speed, and Tarrow pays for those hours in fuel all the way to Kingsreach.

Last year that happened on most calls. We'd like to make it the exception, and put money behind it when it isn't.

Will Saltmarsh hold the GX2 schedule?

Ingrid, Head of Network

Yes, and the contract makes it our problem when we don't. Tuesday 06:00 on berth 3 is yours for seven years. Arrive inside three hours either side and the eighteen-hour clock starts at first line.

If a ship runs later than that, we still work it with six cranes and give you a new window inside 24 hours. Every quarter we sit down with your network team, call by call, with the berth log open.

What does a move cost, and who pays when you're late?

Marcus, Chief Financial Officer

$73.26 a move, all in, fixed for three years and capped at 3 percent a year after that. When we run over, the $9,000 an hour comes back automatically on the next invoice.

The window guarantee costs $18,000 a call. It pays for itself once it saves 1 hour 20 minutes of catch-up steaming. GX2 lost 5 hours 40 on an average Gulf call last year.

Is berth 3 ready for an 8,500 TEU ship at 03:00 in fog?

Captain Tomasz, Port Captain

Berth 3 was dredged in 2024 for ships larger than anything on GX2. Here's what's standing by when Arden comes in at night.

  • 14.8 m alongside at lowest astronomical tide. Arden draws 13.2 m loaded.
  • Two 60-tonne tugs booked by us for every GX2 arrival.
  • Radar-guided berthing down to 500 m visibility, agreed with the pilots.
  • Crane split plan to your ship planner 24 hours out, final at 12 hours.
  • A lashing gang of twelve aboard within 15 minutes of all fast.

How much do our ships burn alongside?

Noor, Head of Sustainability

About 25 MWh of auxiliary engine power on every call today. From mid-2028 berth 3 has a 6.6 kV shore power connection, so a fitted ship switches its engines off at first line.

Our berth 3 power contract is 70 percent renewable. That nets out at about 15 tonnes of CO2 avoided per call, roughly 490 tonnes a year with the five GX2 ships already fitted.

The terms, in plain words.

Price

Rates are fixed for the first three years. From 2030 they move with the Gulf port cost index, capped at 3 percent a year in either direction.

The guarantee

Arrive within three hours of Tuesday 06:00 and we finish inside eighteen hours of first line. Every started hour over is a $9,000 credit on the next invoice, without a claim.

Weather

When wind over 45 knots stops the cranes, the clock pauses for the stoppage and restarts when they move. Both teams read the same anemometer log.

Volume

Priced on 52 calls a year. There's no minimum volume charge. If GX2 changes size, per-move and per-call rates stay where they are.

Damage

Saltmarsh carries cargo handling liability up to $5M per incident. Joint damage surveys happen inside 24 hours of discharge.

Leaving

Either side can end the contract after year three with six months' notice. Invoices are monthly in arrears, payable in 30 days.

What we don't know yet.

  1. Does GX2 stay on Tuesday in the 2027 rotation?

The window is built on it. If the loop moves to Wednesday we can hold berth 3 from 14:00, and no earlier.

  2. Which three ships get shore power connections, and when?

We've priced every call and credit back calls by unfitted ships. A retrofit date for each would let us plan the switchgear load.

  3. How many reefers will GX2 bring?

We planned for 9 percent, about 216 a call. Above 14 percent we add plugs on block R at our cost, with ten weeks' notice.

  4. What happens in the 2029 labour talks?

Our dockworkers' agreement renews in 2029. The 3 percent cap holds whatever it says. You should hear about it from us first.

Reply by 20 November and Tuesday 06:00 is yours.

We're holding berth 3 for GX2 until then. After that the window goes back into the 2027 berth plan.
